Editorial Process

The Journal of Innovations in Internal Medicine (JIIM) is dedicated to ensuring a rigorous, fair, and transparent editorial process. The following outlines the steps from manuscript submission to publication:

1. Manuscript Submission

  • Initial Submission: Authors submit their manuscripts through the JIIM online submission system, ensuring that the manuscript meets the journal's formatting and submission requirements.
  • Acknowledgment of Submission: Authors receive an acknowledgment email confirming receipt of their manuscript.

2. Initial Editorial Review

  • Scope and Quality Check: The editorial office conducts an initial review to verify that the manuscript aligns with the journal’s aims and scope, follows ethical guidelines, and meets basic quality standards.
  • Plagiarism Screening: The manuscript is checked for originality using plagiarism detection software. Manuscripts with significant overlap with other works will be returned or rejected.

3. Assignment to an Editor

  • Editorial Assignment: If the manuscript passes the initial review, it is assigned to an editor with expertise in the relevant field.
  • Preliminary Assessment by the Editor: The assigned editor assesses the manuscript to determine if it warrants full peer review or if it should be returned to the author for revision or rejected at this stage.

4. Peer Review Process

  • Reviewer Selection: The editor selects two or more qualified reviewers with no conflicts of interest. JIIM follows a double-blind peer review process, ensuring that both reviewers and authors remain anonymous.
  • Review Timeline: Reviewers are generally given 2-4 weeks to evaluate the manuscript and submit their feedback.
  • Reviewer Feedback: Reviewers provide constructive feedback on the manuscript’s originality, methodology, data integrity, and significance. They also make recommendations for acceptance, revision, or rejection.

5. Editorial Decision

  • Review Assessment: The editor evaluates reviewer feedback and makes an informed decision regarding the manuscript. Possible outcomes include:
    • Accept: The manuscript is accepted as is.
    • Minor Revisions: The manuscript requires small changes before final acceptance.
    • Major Revisions: The manuscript requires substantial changes and may need another round of review.
    • Reject: The manuscript does not meet the journal’s standards or fit within its scope.
  • Author Notification: Authors are informed of the editorial decision and provided with feedback from the reviewers and editor.

6. Revision and Resubmission

  • Revision Timeline: Authors are given a specific timeframe to address the reviewers’ and editor’s comments and resubmit the revised manuscript.
  • Re-review Process: Depending on the nature of the revisions, the revised manuscript may be sent back to the original reviewers or reviewed solely by the editor.

7. Final Acceptance and Invoicing

  • Final Review: Once revisions are satisfactorily completed, the editor conducts a final review to ensure all feedback has been incorporated.
  • APC Invoicing: Upon acceptance, authors receive an invoice for the Article Processing Charge (APC) of 135 USD. Payment is required before the manuscript enters production.

8. Production Stage

  • Typesetting and Formatting: The manuscript is prepared for publication, including formatting, typesetting, and layout design.
  • Proof Review: Authors are provided with a proof of their article to check for typographical errors or formatting issues. Authors must respond promptly with any corrections.

9. Final Approval and Publication

  • Author Approval: After the proof is reviewed and corrections are made, authors give their final approval.
  • Publication: The article is published online under the Continuous Article Publishing (CAP) model, ensuring that it is made available promptly after the completion of the peer review and production processes. A DOI is assigned to each published article for permanent identification.

10. Post-Publication Updates

  • Corrections and Retractions: If post-publication issues arise, such as errors or ethical concerns, JIIM will issue corrections or retractions as necessary to maintain academic integrity.
  • Reader Engagement: Published articles are promoted through various channels to enhance visibility and impact.

Commitment to Ethical Standards

The editorial process adheres to the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines, ensuring transparency, fairness, and integrity at all stages. The JIIM editorial team is committed to maintaining high ethical standards and supporting authors throughout the publication process.
