Plagiarism Statement
The Journal of Innovations in Internal Medicine (JIIM) upholds the highest standards of academic integrity and ethical publishing. Plagiarism, in any form, is a serious violation of academic ethics and is strictly prohibited.
Definition of Plagiarism
Plagiarism occurs when an author uses someone else’s work, ideas, or words without proper attribution. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Direct Plagiarism: Copying text or ideas verbatim from another source without acknowledging the original author.
- Self-Plagiarism: Reusing substantial portions of an author’s own previously published work without citing the original source.
- Mosaic Plagiarism: Paraphrasing content from multiple sources without proper citation, creating a mosaic of borrowed ideas.
- Unattributed Data or Ideas: Presenting data or ideas from another source as one’s own without giving credit.
Plagiarism Detection
To prevent plagiarism, all submitted manuscripts undergo screening using reliable plagiarism detection software as part of the editorial review process. This ensures that content is original and meets the journal’s standards for publication.
Author Responsibilities
Authors are expected to:
- Submit only original work that has not been published or submitted elsewhere.
- Properly cite and reference all sources used in their manuscript, including data, figures, and ideas.
- Obtain permission for any content reused from other sources when necessary.
Consequences of Plagiarism
If plagiarism is detected at any stage - before or after publication - the following actions will be taken:
- Before Publication: The manuscript will be returned to the author for significant revision or rejected outright. Authors will be notified of the findings, and appropriate actions will be taken to correct the issue.
- After Publication: If plagiarism is discovered post-publication, the article will be retracted, and a retraction notice will be published. The author’s institution may be notified, and the author may be barred from submitting future manuscripts to JIIM.
Preventative Measures
- Author Education: JIIM encourages authors to be aware of the ethical implications of plagiarism and to familiarize themselves with proper citation practices.
- Plagiarism Software: The journal uses advanced plagiarism detection tools to identify any unoriginal content before publication.
Reporting Plagiarism
Concerns about potential plagiarism in any published work in JIIM can be reported to the editorial office for investigation.
