About the Journal

Aim & Scope

Metaverse Science, Society and Law is an international, peer-reviewed Diamond Open Access journal that fosters rigorous and inclusive scholarship on the multifaceted phenomenon of the Metaverse. As an emerging socio-technological paradigm, the Metaverse intersects a wide spectrum of scientific domains—from computer science, engineering, and cognitive science to law, ethics, education, sociology, and economics.

The journal provides a platform for researchers, developers, designers, legal scholars, ethicists, policymakers, and interdisciplinary thinkers to explore how immersive digital environments are reshaping scientific knowledge, societal structures, governance frameworks, and human experience. We welcome original research, theoretical contributions, policy analyses, critical reviews, and case studies that investigate the design, implementation, regulation, and impact of Metaverse technologies and practices.

The journal invites submissions across the following interconnected domains:

  • Technological Foundations and Architectures
Research on spatial computing, real-time rendering, cloud infrastructure, interoperability, and the technical design of immersive systems.

  • Extended Reality (XR) and Human-Computer Interaction
Innovations in virtual, augmented, and mixed reality; interface design; user experience; sensor technologies; and embodiment in digital space.

  • Artificial Intelligence and Intelligent Agents
Applications of AI, machine learning, and generative models in virtual environments, including autonomous agents, behavior modeling, and personalization.

  • Blockchain, Web3, and Decentralized Systems
Studies on distributed infrastructure, token economies, NFTs, smart contracts, and digital asset management in the Metaverse.

  • Digital Identity, Privacy, and Cybersecurity
Frameworks for identity construction, avatar representation, trust, authentication, data protection, and ethical challenges.

  • Social Sciences and Cultural Studies
Analyses of social interaction, community formation, identity politics, digital labor, cultural expression, and inequalities in immersive environments.

  • Law, Regulation, and Digital Rights
Legal scholarship on intellectual property, digital jurisdiction, governance, online harms, liability, and human rights in virtual spaces.

  • Economic Models and Virtual Markets
Investigations into virtual economies, monetization strategies, platform economics, digital commerce, and economic behavior in immersive ecosystems.

  • Education, Training, and Cognitive Science
Research on learning in the Metaverse, serious games, virtual classrooms, cognitive engagement, neuro-ergonomics, and knowledge transfer.

  • Ethics, Philosophy, and Responsible Innovation
Normative inquiries into the societal and moral implications of immersive technologies, AI agency, algorithmic bias, and future human-technology relations.

  • Urbanism, Architecture, and Environmental Design
Concepts and practices for designing virtual cities, spatial governance, immersive planning, and digital twins.

  • Sustainability and Environmental Impact
Exploration of energy use, digital sustainability, dematerialization, and the role of virtuality in mitigating climate change.

  • Health, Psychology, and Well-being
Effects of immersive environments on mental health, addiction, rehabilitation, digital therapeutics, and embodiment in virtual settings.

Commitment to Open and Inclusive Science

As a Diamond Open Access journal, Metaverse Science, Society and Law charges no fees to authors or readers. We are committed to removing barriers to knowledge production and dissemination by promoting accessibility, transparency, equity, and interdisciplinary dialogue.

The journal is open to submissions from all global regions and especially encourages work from underrepresented communities and early-career researchers. All articles are published under a Creative Commons license and benefit from indexing, long-term archiving, and open peer review options.

Continuous Article Publishing (CAP) Model

The journal operates on a Continuous Article Publishing (CAP) basis. This means accepted articles are published immediately after peer review and final editing, without waiting for compilation into scheduled issues. CAP ensures rapid dissemination of research, increases citation opportunities, and provides timely access to knowledge in fast-evolving fields.
