Peer Review Process

Metaverse Science, Society and Law employs a double-blind peer review process to ensure the integrity, objectivity, and scholarly quality of all published content. Reviewers and authors remain anonymous to one another throughout the process.

The journal is committed to fairness, transparency, and efficiency in peer review, while maintaining high standards of academic rigor and ethical conduct.

1. Initial Editorial Screening

Upon submission, all manuscripts are reviewed by the Editor-in-Chief or an assigned Section Editor to assess:

  • Relevance to the journal’s scope
  • Compliance with submission guidelines
  • Originality and academic quality
  • Absence of plagiarism or ethical issues

Manuscripts that do not meet basic standards may be rejected at this stage without external review (desk rejection).

2. Reviewer Selection

Manuscripts that pass the initial screening are assigned to at least two qualified independent reviewers with relevant subject expertise. Reviewers are selected based on:

  • Field of specialization
  • Absence of conflicts of interest
  • Previous experience in scholarly peer review

Reviewers are given 2 weeks to submit their reports. Extensions may be granted upon request.

3. Review Format

Reviewers evaluate the manuscript using a standardized review form and are asked to assess:

  • Originality and contribution to the field
  • Methodological soundness
  • Clarity of presentation
  • Quality of references and supporting materials
  • Relevance to the journal’s scope and audience

Each reviewer recommends one of the following decisions:

  • Accept without revision
  • Minor revisions
  • Major revisions
  • Reject

Constructive feedback is required in all cases to guide authors.

4. Editorial Decision

The Editor-in-Chief or responsible Section Editor reviews the reports and makes a final decision. In cases of conflicting reviews, a third expert may be consulted.

Editorial decisions are communicated to the authors along with anonymized reviewer comments.

5. Revision and Resubmission

Authors are given a specific timeframe to submit revised manuscripts:

  • Minor revisions: 1–2 weeks
  • Major revisions: 3–4 weeks

Revised submissions must be accompanied by a response letter detailing how each comment has been addressed.

Revised manuscripts may undergo a second round of review, especially in cases of substantial changes.

6. Acceptance and Publication

Once a manuscript is accepted, it proceeds to copyediting, typesetting, and metadata preparation, after which it is published online immediately as part of the journal’s Continuous Article Publishing (CAP) model.

Each article receives a DOI and is indexed and archived for permanent access.

7. Optional Open Peer Review

The journal supports transparency in scholarly communication and offers authors and reviewers the option to:

  • Publish the peer review reports alongside the article
  • Sign their reviews if they wish to disclose their identity

Participation in open peer review is entirely voluntary.
